EVERETT, Wash., Aug. 18, 2026 – After many years of planning, a transit park and ride facility is scheduled to open Aug. 29 near Cathcart Way and State Route 9

Now that construction of the 154-stall Cathcart Crossing Park and Ride is completed, the facility will be owned by Snohomish County and operated by Community Transit under an operations and maintenance agreement. The facility was a condition of development of the Cathcart Crossing property located north of the park and ride facility to help reduce congestion along Cathcart Way and link riders to the future light rail along Interstate 5.  

Community Transit and Snohomish County have been working together on Transportation Demand Management strategies, to provide people with efficient multimodal alternatives that maximize use of the Cathcart Way corridor.  

“With increased transportation demands, it’s important to invest in infrastructure that encourages transportation alternatives,” said Snohomish County Public Works Director Kelly Snyder. “We are delighted to work with Community Transit to deliver the Cathcart Crossing Park and Ride facility to serve transit routes on Cathcart Way and potential future routes on SR 9.”

Routes 109, 166, and 901 are changing to serve the new Cathcart Park and Ride that’s opening on the southwest corner of Cathcart Way and SR 9 near Silver Firs, in Snohomish. While riders will see new stops on all three routes, including Willis D. Community Park, some stops will be eliminated to better serve areas where ridership is growing and plan for future expansion. 

 “Since the arrival of light rail in Snohomish County, Community Transit has expanded local bus service, especially in areas that are growing and have historically been underserved by public transit,” said Community Transit CEO Ric Ilgenfritz. “We’re excited to give people who live along Highway 9 more access to transit with three bus routes that will serve Cathcart Park and Ride starting Aug. 29.”
