Buffalo to Monticello roadwork

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation will adjust traffic on Highway 25 between Buffalo and Monticello as crews move into the next phase of the 2026 project. Here’s what motorists can expect in the work zone:

  • Highway 25 reopens to through traffic from the Wright County Road 37 roundabout to Monticello by Friday evening, Aug. 21. Reduced speeds and periodic lane or shoulder closures will remain through October.
  • Highway 25 is closed between County Road 37 and County Road 83 (35th Street) through October. The detour uses County Road 37, County Road 12 and Highway 55. See figure 1.
  • Wright County is constructing the roundabout at Highway 25 and County Road 113. The temporary signal at County Road 37 and County Road 117 (Edmonson Avenue NE) will stay in place for access to County Road 113.
  • Highway 25 reopened to local traffic south of Wright County Road 83 (35th Street) on Aug. 17. This segment remains an active work zone. Expect reduced speeds with lane and shoulder closures to continue through October.
  • Anderson Avenue is closed at Highway 25 to reconstruct the connection prior to Labor Day weekend. Use Catlin Street or Third Avenue NE for access.
  • Access will be maintained and open for those who live, work or visit locations along the Highway 25 work zone; however, expect changes and follow road signs.
  • Temporary striping remains until final pavement markings and rumble/mumble strips are set this fall.

When all lanes reopen in fall 2026, the $11.4 million project will improve safety, drainage and ride quality along seven miles of Highway 25.

This project is rebuilding and recycling the road surface using Stabilized Full Depth Reclamation, which requires deep excavation and large equipment. To keep workers safe, follow these driving tips:

  • Obey posted speed limits. The fine for speeding in a work zone is $300.
  • Pay attention to the road. Stay alert and avoid distractions.
  • Move over and give crews space.
  • Never enter a road closed with barriers or cones.
